Sorry for posting this here but I didn't know if anyone looks at the MPC 1000 board very often.
I am a new user of the MPC 1000. I bought the tutorial and have found it to be helpful, and I can load and play the factory sounds just fine.
Being more of a classic rocker than anything, I wanted acoustic drums. I purchased a CD from Drums On Demand. These are 24 bit .WAV files. I loaded my CF card from the CD and inserted it into the MPC as per the tutorial.
When I navigate to the contents of the card (the MPC recognizes the contents) and try to load a folder or even one .WAV file, nothing happens. If I have a single .WAV file highlighted from one of the folders, I get no sound when I press "play". If I press "load" nothing happens. If I press "do it" I get an error message that says "wrong file!"
These sounds are all standard 24 bit .WAV files and they play fine on my PC using Sony Sonic Stage. (They won't play using Windows Media Player.) My MPC has the current OS and factory RAM although I have the 128 MB ordered. Thanks for any help. |

Hey, GMax-
The MPC1k only plays 16 bit files. You'd have to move up to the MPC4k to access 24 bit samples. No biggie if you have a program to convert the 24 bit samples to 16. Hope you have a program for that--Wavelab, Soundforge and most 2 track editors will have this capability.
Good luck-

The MPC 1000 is a 16 bit machine so loading 24 bit data .wavs shouldn't work. However, you can dump those .wavs into the DPS24 and then you have the option to reasample them to 16 bit...or even just play them as is and resample them into the MPC1000. Don't worry about degradation either, the MPC1000 will spit back exactly what you heard going in. Once you have the files, you can assemble and save the kits as you choose. The factory sounds are pretty uninspiring...especially for rock, but don't let that dissuade you...the 1k is a great piece. They really should have MUCH better factory sounds in there though. For a $1,000 machine, they got the hardware right but the stock sounds are mostly lame. They ought to hire someone to produce a set of great rock/pop studio samples in 1k format. They'd probably sell a bunch if the price were reasonable and they'd only need say one or two dry studio kits and maybe one or two processed kits.

Thanks for the help guys. I should have known better, but the DOD tech guy told me to get 24 bit and I had my mind on the 24-bit capability of the DPS.
I don't have the software to resample and I don't yet have a PC in the studio although this will change soon. I assume I need a PC and USB do load the folders into the DPS. I think one of my friends has Soundforge, so I will try that first.
Thanks,

yo Pedro...seems we're cross posting here...OK...you go next :-)
GMAX...even if you can borrow something that can play 24 bit .wavs, you can still play them right into the DPS24. Once in there you can shoot them via analog to the MPC...you can even edit them or add fx or whatever. The DPS24 makes a dandy sample-sooper-upper and the analog thing sounds aces on the MPC...phatt!
